1. Jazz Music

Jazz Music

As Jazz grew out of blues and slave music to become independently popular in the 1940’s and 50’s, it also facilitated a conversation about racial equality and black peoples’ place in American society. Jazz was recognized by many as “black people music” due to its roots in slave music and the blues. This controversy not only brought jazz to the attention of a larger audience, but also, gave it cultural relevance as music that acted as resistance music and, alternately, brought the warring skin colors together in harmony. Without the political air that surrounded jazz, the genre would not have carried the same musical or social influence, as many white people loved the music, but did not necessarily love the people making it; this is exemplified by the music itself and described in the writings of many prominent jazz scholars. Jazz music began in the Deep South as the product of African-American discrimination and struggle, and was able to develop due to their eventual independence after the Civil War. For a long time, blacks “weren’t being recognized. Their talents and capacities were debased, devalued and degraded” (West 501). Peretti’s novel, The Creation of Jazz: Music, Race, and Culture in Urban America, discusses the racial and cultural dynamics of jazz music.

2. K-POP

K-POP

Kpop is a global phenomenon that invaded modern culture with the speed of light. It seems that the popularity of Korean culture began not only in visual and musical art, but in Korean cosmetics five years ago. Actually, Kpop takes its roots from the year 1992, and thanks to the bands Seo Taiji and Boys, we have become familiar with modern and unique Korean-style popular music. The history of how Korean popular music influenced the whole world is a great topic for an essay about Kpop.Even the most skeptical spectator can’t take their sight away from the screen when they see modern Kpop groups of beautiful singing girls and boys. That’s the most typical reason teachers like to assign such topics for essays as Kpop.

Korean pop is a musical genre that has taken the world by storm. According to a Tellwut survey, one out of three people has heard of Kpop (“Kpop?”). Kpop artists are idolized by their fans, so they are often called idols and for good reason. They are people of many talents, and their catchy music videos have imaginative choreography, colorful costumes, and good-looking singers who exude a special charm.

First of all, Kpop songs are catchy, and it is hard for listeners to forget them. An author of the American music magazine Rolling Stone believes that Korean popular music “preys on listeners’ heads with repeated hooks” (Benjamin). It is hard to deny his statement considering the overwhelming popularity of “Gangnam Style” with its 3.5 billion views on YouTube (Park).

Furthermore, Korean music videos are also known for astonishing visuals. These videos glitter with the bright colors of the costumes and lively dance numbers that are hard to forget. One of the most memorable music videos is “Catallena” by Orange Caramel that shows different sushi sets represented as real people.

3. Heavy Metal Music

Heavy Metal Music

Heavy Metal Music: History and Misconceptions Heavy metal music has been a source of social controversy since its early beginnings. It started out as a new age form of rock. Heavy metal brought a new look and sound to rock. The early heavy metal musicians decided to tune their guitars down, increase the tempo, play guitars and drums faster, and get a more grungy sound. The musicians also decided to wear tight, ripped, black clothing, chains, spikes, and combat boots. Most people did as anyone would expect them to do when faced with something fairly new, they found it strange and looked down on it. Much of society did not actually delve into heavy metal to find out what it is truly all about, and made assumptions that were untrue. This was a side of the subject of war that many had not taken in their lyrical choice. (Reesman, Bryan) Some early metal bands performed crazy, unseen acts on stage that really made society start to have misconceptions about the genre. For instance, the band Black Sabbath usually had live bats at their concerts. At one of these concerts, lead singer Ozzy Osborne caught one of the bats and bit the head off of it while it was still alive and threw it into the crowd. The media, already having a mostly negative outlook on heavy metal, use this repulsive act as ammo to their "Heavy Metal is Evil," campaign. Since the beginning of the heavy metal genre, many different subgenres have branched off from it. Some of which include black metal, thrash metal, grind core, death metal, and liquid metal. Each of these brings their own unique sound to metal, while keeping the same basic precedents set by the first metal bands. Black metal is a more heavy, dark sounding metal. They use different vocal techniques such as deep growls and pig squeals in their songs. Artists of the black metal genre still use the tune downed guitars and fast tempos and drum beats as original heavy metal did. An example of a black metal band is Cannibal Corpse. Thrash metal is a more grungy

4. Rap

Rap

The majority of todays youth listen to a form of music known as rap/hip-hop, rap being the style in which the artists uses his words while hip-hop refers more to the beats which is then often accompanied by a rap from a rapper, they go hand in hand with each other to make this genre. When you hear today’s music in this genre you hear artists talking about materialistic things they value such as; cars, money, drugs, women, and often-about crimes they have committed. They do still talk about the struggle of coming from the ghetto or hood (poverty stricken areas) and of gang violence but it’s not quite what it use to be. When looking at when rap and hip-hop first came around in the seventies you can see a very different meaning being convoyed through the music, there seems to be more of a focus of the struggle of being poor, gang life and overcoming racism and helping out the youth who live the lives these rappers use to live. While talking about how things need to be changed so that the youth doesn’t have to commit crimes or make decisions based on trying to make it out of the hood and to stop struggling. There has clearly been a evolution in lyric and what the rappers want to be heard from their music, but it wasn’t sudden we must take a look at the decades compared to the style of rap at that time to understand the change.

5. 8D-Music

8D-Music

It’s hard to say who is the creator of the first 8D record. However, today you can find a large number of channels on YouTube, the authors of which post similar music. One of the largest - 8D Tuneswith seven million subscribers. An example of his work is the 8D version of Twenty One Pilots’s “Nico and the Niners” composition .Cavities in the human ear have their own characteristics of resonances and reflections, which depend on the frequency of the sound wave and its angle of incidence. Our brain is able to notice these distortions and determine the direction from which the sound is coming. The intensity of distortion for each person is individual and is described by the so-called head-related transfer function , or HRTF. Using filtering, taking into account the transfer function of the head, and special software, you can create the effect of "moving" the sound source "around" the listener.

To make the effect as realistic as possible, it is necessary to calculate the transfer function for each person individually. However, the musicians use the ready-made HRTF sets, measured in an anechoic chamber (we wrote about it in detail in one of the previous materials ). These kits form the basis of special filters for sound processing programs, such as Sennheiser's Ambeo Orbit.

Sometimes, Haas effect is also used to simulate the location of sound sources in space when processing audio . To do this, in one of the two stereo channels the track is “delayed” by 5–30 ms. As a result, the sound that reaches our ear first will sound louder. This will create the illusion of moving the sound source left or right.Listeners leave mixed reviews about 8D effect recordings. There are those who compare 8D audio with live sound. For some, the new effect is similar to the ACMP phenomenon : people listen to such recordings in order to relax before going to bed. There are reviews of a more unusual reaction to 8D sounds: recordings help someone to get rid of tinnitus or pain.
